Warriors select C James Wiseman, Memphis

As is the case with every mock draft, nothing is certain. This pick by the Warriors could easily be traded away to another team in exchange for a lower pick and a championship piece, but for now, I have Golden State taking James Wiseman.

The big man out of Memphis was only able to play three games before a scandal involving Memphis coach Penny Hardaway ruled Wiseman ineligible for play and he withdrew.

But now that he is a year removed from high school, the former assumed top prospect will be a first-rounder headed to a top-tier NBA organization.

In his three games for the Tigers, Wiseman averaged a double-double with three blocks a game while averaging only 23 minutes.

The starting lineup of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green might not have as much pressure on them if the Warriors select Wiseman, who some consider to be above Edwards in regards to talent and potential.

The biggest question mark coming in will be if Wiseman is in shape, interested, and invested in the game enough to improve and become a star in the Warriors frontcourt. A steady effort to stretch his game to the perimeter wouldn’t hurt either, but Wiseman will be a quality rim-runner to start.

Must Read. Bulls should avoid these 3 players with the fourth pick. light

Best case scenario, the Warriors are back in the playoffs and are still a dangerous squad, keeping their core intact while adding talented youth. Making the pick of a starting-caliber center, Golden State extends their championship window while also filling a position of need.

Worst case scenario, the Warriors trade this pick and some of their youth to get a more proven player to get as much out of Curry and Thompson while they are still at the top of their game, albeit after an injury-riddled 2019.
