Chicago Bears: 3 players to trade for within the NFC West
By Ryan Heckman
Trade No. 3
The Bears still need another running back, and the 49ers have plenty. Even after trading Matt Breida to the Dolphins, San Francisco still has Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman, Jeff Wilson and Jerick McKinnon.
They obviously love Moster, especially after how he balled out in the Super Bowl. Coleman was an expensive free agent signing and isn’t going anywhere this year, at least. Wilson is also a guy Kyle Shanahan likes and trusts, especially around the goal line.
Still, McKinnon is in San Francisco, now on a 1-year deal and a $2.9 million cap hit. It’s safe to say he’s not in their long-term plans, coming off a lengthy injury recovery and at age 28.
Shanahan loves having “too many” running backs, but if the Bears could land McKinnon for a late-round pick, maybe they would bite. McKinnon would instantly become a strong backup and third-down back, while allowing Tarik Cohen to focus more on special teams and be used in various ways on offense.
The Bears need a solid backup to David Montgomery, and if McKinnon is healthy, he could be exactly that.
