Chicago Bears: 5 keys to the offense having success in 2020
David Montgomery breaking out in year two
The Bears drafted David Montgomery in last year’s draft and last season you have seen glimpses of his potential. When he was drafted, one of the aspects of his game that was highlighted that got fans excited was his receiving ability out of the backfield.
Montgomery’s vision and ability to break tackles are always certainly appreciated. It would be noticeable with improve run blocking from the offensive line and tight ends. What will separate Montgomery from most backs around the league is his versatility out the backfield.
He has the potential to be a more dangerous version of Damien Williams of the Kansas City Chiefs. To take it a step further I feel his ceiling is prime David Johnson. The talent is all there, but Nagy must find a way to get the most out of it. If he does figure it out, he has a star at the running back position.
The key for Montgomery is the o-line playing above expectations. He got very little help from them as far as opening holes. We saw flashes of what Montgomery’s potential can be. We need to see a big jump in year two. If he plays to the level that many think he could play at, it will greatly benefit this offense.
