Chicago Bears: 7 players who must prove themselves in 2020
By Usayd Koshul
5. K Eddy Pineiro
Whether you want to admit it or not, Eddy Pineiro managed to show enough last season to the point where the Bears are giving him another chance to be the teams kicker in 2020. However, even he wasn’t perfect.
Pineiro would hit on just 82 percent of his field goal attempts but in terms of yardage, he’d have issues hitting field goals from anywhere between 30 yards to 49 yards. In this range, 12 of 17, missing a total of five field goals. However, he’d excel at hitting field goals from 50 or more yards, proving that his strong leg is a reason that he’d win the Bears kicking competition that took place last offseason.
This offseason, the Bears brought in kicker Ramiz Ahmed (Nevada) to challenge Pineiro. While it is still his job to lose, if the Pineiro can have another strong season in 2020, he’ll likely solidify his spot as the Bears kicker for years to come.
If he struggles, the Bears will once again be looking for a kicker in 2021, proving that trading a 2021 conditional seventh-round pick for Pineiro wasn’t’ worth it and ultimately, the Bears ended up losing the trade.
