Chicago Blackhawks: Three candidates to replace John McDonough
The Chicago Blackhawks have fired John McDonough but now they need to find a replacement for him as president and CEO of the organization.
The Chicago Blackhawks made a major change on Monday afternoon. They fired John McDonough as the President and CEO of this team. He had been in his position for a very long time and the team had seen lots of success under his leadership. They won the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013, and 2015. The team had success, but it was time for John McDonough to go.
There were plenty of reasons for why it was his time. You can argue that they are even two years too late. McDonough is probably one of two guys who should have been gone a long time ago. Stan Bowman, the general manager, is the other. These two have made many pivotal mistakes for this franchise and that has caused their supreme reign to end sooner than it should have.
McDonough had a big part in the hockey operations. Bowman was the general manager but McDonough had his opinions heard loud and clear during meetings. He had a big hand in the Artemi Panarin trade and that was the beginning of the end of the dynasty. Panarin never won the Cup with Chicago but he was the newfound depth that they got rid of before he was able to help them to a deep playoff run.
McDonough was loyal to the Bowman family to a fault. He is a well-noted friend of Scottie Bowman who is one of the greatest hockey minds in the history of the National Hockey League. Stan should have been let go a while ago but McDonough chose him to stay around over Joel Quenneville. That was a huge mistake as well as you probably shouldn’t fire the greatest coach in team (and NHL) history.
The Blackhawks are now going to be looking for a new President and CEO. These three candidates are possibilities to be the next one in McDonough’s place. Each of them very well might be considered for the job going forward:
