Round Seven, Pick 226: QB Cole McDonald, Hawaii

Despite investing a fourth-rounder in Nick Foles and retaining Mitchell Trubisky, the Bears adding a quarterback should absolutely be considered. If the team doesn’t take a quarterback on day two, then adding someone on day three should be a priority.

With a guy like Cole McDonald, the Bears are taking a flyer on a quarterback that they hope can develop into something. This is the perfect low-risk, high-reward kind of draft pick to make. If it works out, the Bears have a solid player. If not, they don’t lose much.

McDonald has all the traits needed to be a successful quarterback in the NFL. He just needs help realizing his full potential. He plays with poise, has good footwork, and great arm strength. Overall, he’s got all the tools required to play quarterback, the question is, can he hone these skills and translate it all over to the NFL? That will be the biggest question with McDonald.
