Chicago Bears: 5 bold predictions for 2020 NFL Draft
By Ryan Heckman
3. The Bears draft a defensive lineman
If you look at Pace’s history, he always does something that makes you wonder what he’s thinking. Taking a defensive lineman might be a little out of left field, but I don’t think it would be a bad idea.
Of course, you have Eddie Goldman penciled in as the starting nose tackle — and he’ll be there until he retires or the Bears choose not to re-sign him. On the ends, you have the young Bilal Nichols and veteran Akiem Hicks, along with backup Roy Robertson-Harris.
But, last year’s surprise story, Nick Williams, left via free agency and is now with the Detroit Lions. I don’t think it will be early, but I do think the Bears will try to draft a defensive lineman later on to help add depth in that group.
If you look at 2019, Williams had to come in and play significant time due to injuries. Should the Bears be in that position again, God forbid, they’ll want to have a young body to throw in there to help ease the pain.
