Chicago Bears 2020 NFL Draft: 7th Round quarterback options
By Ryan Heckman
5. Brian Lewerke, Michigan State
Out of all six of these quarterbacks, Brian Lewerke might be the most inconsistent. It would be frustrating as a Spartans fan, because at times, Lewerke looks like a surefire future pro. Other times, you wonder what exactly he’s thinking with some of his decisions.

It’s almost as if there are some plays where Lewerke turns it all on and shows you a few NFL-caliber throws and, the next thing you know, he’s tossing the football around with very little zip and doesn’t seem to follow through with his motion.
There has to be a reason he was a three-year starter at a school like Michigan State, though. Looking at many of his scouting reports, he grabbed national attention after 2017. But, following a 20-touchdown, 7-interception season that year, Lewerke went on to throw a combined 25 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in 2018 and 2019 combined.
If he gets selected in the seventh round, or even signed as an undrafted free agent, it’s because there are front offices that remember how great he looked in 2017 and believe he can be molded into a pro quarterback. Is he worth stashing on a practice squad? Sure, but is he the best available from this list? Not really. Consistency is the key word for Lewerke, and he’ll need a lot more of it in summer workouts and camp.
