Round 6, Pick 195: OL Michael Onwenu, Michigan

The Bears would be wise to add depth at both tackle and guard in the draft, even though it sounds like newly-signed Germain Ifedi might have the inside track on the open starting guard spot. Bringing in a tough-nosed offensive lineman from the Big Ten wouldn’t be a bad idea.

More from Da Windy City

Michael Onwenu is a mammoth of a man at 6-foot-3, weighing 344 pounds. He is a big, powerful body with plenty of play strength. The biggest downside is his lack of athleticism. Because of his size and strength, Onwenu struggles a little off the line of scrimmage. Tweaking his body just a little bit and under the right coaching, Onwenu would be a valuable backup.

Round 6, Pick 197: Cornerback A.J. Green, Oklahoma State

This is another guy we’ve talked about before in reference to the Bears. A.J. Green would be an excellent late-round pick to add to the cornerback room. His 6-foot-1 frame is lengthy and helps his ability to go after the ball at the point of attack. He has the body of a true cover corner, but lacks the top-end speed.

As a potential backup to start with, Green would get the coaching he needs from a coach like Chuck Pagano who could groom him into the best possible version of himself. In the sixth round, you can’t go wrong with Green.
