Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: Let’s get wild, trade up
By Ryan Heckman
Round 7, Pick 227: Running Back Michael Warren II, Cincinnati
In the NFL nowadays, it’s tough for premier running backs to get paid, and it’s because coaches find ways to use a lot of different types of backs from all kinds of backgrounds. If the Bears were to trade Cohen and roll with Montgomery and Patterson, they could also snag a guy late like Michael Warren II and be just fine at running back.
Over his last two seasons at Cincinnati, Warren has rushed for over 2,500 yards and 33 touchdowns. He has also caught 46 passes for almost 400 yards and three touchdowns. He’s been the feature guy for two seasons and has tons of experience both running and catching the ball.
As someone who could carry it 5-to-9 times per game, Warren would suffice. The main issue with the run game, of course, is the offensive line.
Round 7, Pick 234: Linebacker Chris Orr, Wisconsin
If the Bears can land a linebacker like Chris Orr this late, they have to take their shot on him. He will probably fit best inside, behind Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan.
Orr has a motor on him. He can blitz with the best of them and fires through the line trying to get to the quarterback. He’s fine in coverage, too, as long as he isn’t asked to drop too deep.
Not having a ton of experience is one of the reasons he will fall, along with maybe over pursuing at times, too. But, on a defense like the Bears, being surrounded by the talent at linebacker, I think Orr would be in a great spot.
