Chicago Bears Free Agency: 5 potential cap casualties to sign
By Ryan Heckman
Quarterback Joe Flacco, Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos seem to have found their future at quarterback with Drew Lock, who came in and started the last five games of 2019. The rookie went 4-1 as a starter, and the Broncos definitely rallied around the kid once he took the reins.

Should Denver decide to move on from veteran Joe Flacco, they save $10 million. At this point, I would assume the Broncos do cut ties with him and allow him a shot to compete for a job elsewhere.
Now, Flacco wouldn’t come in and replace Mitchell Trubisky as the starter. But, Trubisky’s seat would be a little hotter if Chicago paid Flacco to come in and be the backup. Chase Daniel was once one of the higher paid backups while with the Bears, and Flacco would certainly be in a similar situation.
The 35-year-old and former Super Bowl champion would be more of a temporary fix if Trubisky struggles. One of the questions I would have for Flacco if he was cut, though, is whether or not he wants to keep playing. If so, would he be fine as the backup behind Trubisky? If he’s anything like Philip Rivers (whom the Bears are not going to land), I don’t think that’s where his head is at.
Do I think the Bears could win a Super Bowl with Flacco as their starter? Honestly, I don’t know. I actually hesitate to believe he’s good enough. However, as a backup, I would be more than happy with Flacco in Chicago.
