Chicago Cubs Rumors: 3 outcomes of a Kris Bryant trade
By Jason Parini
A New Era
Any trade of Kris Bryant would immediately usher in a new era of Cubs baseball.
Having been drafted in the 2013 MLB Draft, Bryant was one of the earliest centerpieces of the Cubs rebuild.
Not only would it mean that the Cubs would be beginning a new rebuild, but it would also effectively bring an end to the current championship window.
Bryant is one of the most important (and arguably most important in some aspects) piece of the current roster. Having led the Cubs in WAR in 2016, 2017 and 2019 as well as in 2015 for position players.
Bryant is more valuable to the Cubs than any number or statistic, though his departure would be most noticeable on the field.
If Bryant is traded, it would more than likely mean the departure of other superstars as well as it would mean that the Cubs would be entering a rebuild. Though they could get major league ready talent in return for Bryant, any player who comes over would almost certainly be a downgrade from him with the exception of numerous players.
Therefore it would make the most sense to acquire a number of prospects for the future in any return, allowing the Cubs to enter full rebuild mode.
