According to Chicago Cubs rumors, the team could deal Kris Bryant this offseason. What would be the effects of a Bryant deal?

Death. Taxes.

And now Kris Bryant trade rumors.

It may be a new decade, but not much has changed since the beginning of the 2019-20 offseason.

Numerous teams have reportedly checked in with the Chicago Cubs on what it would take to pry the All-Star third baseman from the North Side, with recent reports suggesting that the Washington Nationals are a potential destination for Bryant.

Not only have the Cubs been linked to a Bryant trade, but multiple sources have stated that the team could be a suitor to acquire fellow third baseman Nolan Arenado if the Colorado Rockies opt to deal the superstar.

It’s been reported that the chances of the Rockies dealing Arenado are at 50/50 (which is kind of hard to argue that they either will or won’t, but I’m no mathematician).

The return for the Rookie of the Year, MVP and three-time All-Star would have to be massive. But there’s more to a Kris Bryant trade than just a change in two (or more) team rosters.

The outcome of such a blockbuster trade would have resounding effects for both the Cubs organization as well as the rest of the league.

Whether or not Bryant is actually traded is anyone’s guess, and it’s further complicated by the pending decision on KB’s playing time grievance.

Teams are hesitant to trade for Bryant as there is a small (albeit unlikely) possibility of losing one year of team control and his free agency coming a year early.
