3. Round Five, Pick 141: QB Anthony Gordon, Washington State

Let’s face it: Mitchell Trubisky has shown that he’s not the answer and the Bears will need to figure out the quarterback position in 2020. The best bet for the Bears is to sign a veteran in free agency and then draft a young quarterback to develop either as a backup or as a future starter.

In what is expected to be another strong quarterback class with multiple names projected to be off the board by the time the fifth-round rolls around, one name that continues to slip through the cracks is Anthony Gordon, a guy who’s quietly put together a solid 2019 season at Washington State.

What’s excellent about Gordon is his big arm and ability to consistently hit his receivers with ease. He’s also a guy who is able to go through his progressions with ease but does need to go through them faster to avoid being sacked. However, in no way does Gordon automatically lock onto one receiver.

Gordon’s route to becoming the starter for Washington State is one that’s worth noting as well. Before playing for the Cougars, he was at a community college where he earned numerous accolades such as offensive player of the year for California’s Community College Athletic Association.

One area where Gordon can improve is his footwork which at times, does tend to get a little bit sloppy when the pocket begins to collapse. Is he the perfect quarterback prospect by any means? Nope. However, he still does a lot of things well that will give any coaching staff the confidence that he can be a solid quarterback in the NFL.
