2. Round Two, Pick 49: S Ashtyn Davis, California

It’s tough to determine whether or not the Bears future strong safety is on the roster as of right now. Veterans Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Deon Bush are both set to be free agents in 2020. Of the two, Bush is more likely to return on a three or four-year deal. But if the Bears are unable to retain Bush, then Ashtyn Davis would make an excellent replacement.

While picking Davis to go in the second-round seems like it’s a bit of a reach, he too is a guy who could end up rising up teams draft boards come February and March. Right off the bat, when watching Davis’ tape, the three things that stick out are his discipline, ability to use his eyes, and versatility.

Throughout his college career, Davis has shown the ability to be an excellent tackler and play with a physical mindset which is something that coaches will appreciate at the next level. He also rarely seems to overpursue ball carriers, which will be of tremendous value once he reaches the NFL.

The Bears would be wise to keep an eye on Davis. In any scenario that he slips in the draft, he’d be the perfect example of a guy who could end up being another hidden gem that could end up becoming a potential starter during his second NFL season.
