Worst performance #1: K Eddy Pineiro

It may be tough for us as Bears fans to continue to discuss the team’s kicker problem. It seemed a thing of the past after a week two win in Denver. Kicker Eddy Pineiro nailed a 53-yard field goal as time expired in that game to seal a 16-14 win.

It was a game that the Bears had no business winning, but they were able to finally gain yardage on offense in order to set up Pineiro’s long kick. As Pineiro ran off the field in celebration, it seemed to exorcise the demons of last year’s playoff loss.

Not so fast. After Sunday’s loss, it’s clear that the kicker position is still a problem for the Bears. It may not be the team’s biggest issue, but it’s still definitely an issue. Pineiro missed two field goals against the Chargers, including a potential game-winner.

I won’t put the last kick all on Pineiro. The Bears had enough time on the clock to run the ball and try and the field goal attempt a bit closer. Instead, Nagy decided to take a knee and run the clock down to set up the kick as time expired.

Pineiro barely missed the 41-yard kick wide to the left, and the game was over. He also missed a 33-yard attempt early in the game, the same distance as an extra point.

The young kicker will have plenty of chances to bounce back, as I’m sure this offense will have to settle for plenty of field goals in the future.
