Chicago Bears: Three reasons not to trade for Jalen Ramsey
The Chicago Bears made a big splash with a trade and new contract for star linebacker Khalil Mack last year. They should avoid doing the same with cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
It was a bombshell in the NFL on Monday when news broke that cornerback Jalen Ramsey of the Jacksonville Jaguars requested a trade through his agent. While the Chicago Bears made a blockbuster trade last year, this one isn’t a fit for the team.
There’s no doubt that Ramsey is one of the best players in the NFL. He’s widely regarded as a top-three corner in the league. Some have tagged him as having an attitude problem, but he may still be worth the headache for a contending team.
For the Bears, they already made a big splash right before last season started when they traded multiple first-round draft picks to acquire linebacker Khalil Mack from the Oakland Raiders. It may take a similar haul to land Ramsey.
There will certainly be offers to the Jaguars for a player of this caliber. However, the Jaguars initially said they have no plans to trade Ramsey. While that may be the public line, it’s clear that there’s a conflict with Ramsey and the team that may not be fixable.
Ramsey got into a confrontation with his head coach Doug Marrone on the sideline during the team’s loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. It’s another bad optics moment for a player with a few under his belt.
It may be tempting for the Bears front office to try and scrape together a package to offer for Ramsey, it’s not a move worth making at this time. Here are three reasons the Bears shouldn’t trade for this Pro Bowl corner.
