Chicago Blackhawks: Notes about opening of training camp
The Chicago Blackhawks are officially underway in their training camp. There are some notable storylines to go over as they get underway with 2019-20.
The Chicago Blackhawks have a bit of concern heading into training camp, which began on Friday. They also appear to be taking the smart route to address these concerns. They ended the Traverse City Prospect Tournament with a seventh-place finish after winning the seventh-place game over the Minnesota Wild. In that game, they lost four players to injury including their two top prospects, Adam Boqvist, and Kirby Dach.
Dach is in concussion protocol for now and that remains to be seen. All of the comments on Boqvist throughout the first day were about him being ready to turn pro instead of being sent back to juniors. They also released information of Calvin de Haan, who is going to be out of the lineup for 2-3 weeks due to a groin strain and shoulder surgery recovery. Hopefully, everybody is back to full strength by the time the season rolls around.
There were some reports about Corey Crawford coming out of camp online as well. He is apparently, according to general manager Stan Bowman, back to his old self as far as being excited to play hockey and his old happy personality. That is important as he has another great goalie with him in Robin Lehner, and the Blackhawks might be getting ready to see a huge season from a great tandem.
Brendan Perlini is in attendance after signing a contract extension just a short time before the start of camp. He is going to be an important piece to the Blackhawks’ attack and can play as the third wheel on any of the four lines. He is going to be a good player for them and one everyone is excited to have in time for the start of the season.
One thing that feels apparent based on everything that has come out as far as quotes and interviews, is that the Blackhawks believe in themselves going into the year which is good because they have a roster that can make it to the playoffs if everything goes right. As training camp moves into the preseason, there will be many more fun things to discuss but hockey is back and everyone should be really excited about it.
