Clifton Duck

We kick things off with a player who is quickly becoming a fan favorite and has a legitimate shot to ‘quack’ the 53-man roster. As a cornerback, he certainly fits the ‘bill,’ so if he is not on the team when they break camp, it may have some fans crying ‘fowl.’

Now that you’re sufficiently overloaded on duck puns, let’s get down to the reasons why Clifton Duck deserves a spot on this team. The undrafted free agent out of Appalachian had been balling out during practice, flying all over the field.

However, the Bears obviously wanted to see if he could replicate that performance in a game. Well, he did against the New York Giants with a diving interception at the goal line that he returned for about 62-yards. The best word to describe Duck as a cornerback is “sticky” because he is usually draped all over the wide receiver.

The problem for Duck is that he plays a position of depth for the Bears. They already have Kyle Fuller, Prince Amukamara, Buster Skrine, Sherrick McManis, and Duke Shelley ahead of him. Second-year undrafted free agent Kevin Toliver may also have a slight advantage over Duck, so it could be tough for him to breakthrough the roster.

Whether he makes the roster is still very much in doubt, but whether he deserves a spot, isn’t. Even if he doesn’t make the roster, I’d expect him to be kept on the practice squad.
