It’s time for the Chicago Cubs to start running away with the division.

As previously noted, the Chicago Cubs have been clinging to their lead in the National League Central. They are one of the best team’s in baseball at the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field but one of the worst away from it. With a 3 game lead in the division, it’s time for the Cubs to start to separate themselves from the pack.

It won’t be an easy task with Willson Contreras out for the next month. They were proactive and signed Jonathan Lucroy who was designated-for-assignment this past weekend by the Los Angeles Angels. He’s not the same player he once was but he will be a better backup catcher than Taylor Davis.

The Brewers will begin a six-game home stand on Friday with both the Rangers and Twins coming to town. It’s not going to be an easy six games for Milwaukee but they hit well in that launching pad of a stadium. Similarly, the Cardinals head back home for a quick three-game series against the Pirates, then head back out on the road for a two-game series in Kansas City and a three-game series in Cincinnati.

On paper, it looks like a relatively easy 8 games for the Cardinals which is why it’s so key for the Cubs to have a solid road trip. Taking 3-of-4 against the Reds this weekend would be a huge confidence booster for this team.
