The Chicago Cubs have one of the worst road records in baseball. Here are three reasons why this ten-game road trip is the most important of the season.

The Chicago Cubs have not been great on the road. Heck they haven’t even been good. With a record of 21-33, they have the second worst road record just ahead of the Miami Marlins. It feels like lately the Cubs need their homestands to make up for their terrible, inept play on the road. It’s the weirdest thing to watch.

With a 41-19 home record, which is just behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best in baseball, the Cubs look lifeless on the road and just simply cannot hit. They just finished up a 5-1 homestand taking both series against the Brewers and the Athletics. Now they head out on the road for a 10-game road trip starting Thursday for a four-game series in Cincinnati, three games in Philadelphia, and three in Pittsburgh to finish it up.

The road trip finale against Pittsburgh will be on Sunday Night Baseball and played in Willamsport at the Little League World Series site. Hopefully the Cubs are in a good position heading into that final game because, well, they could really use it. They haven’t won a road series since the three-game series against the Nationals back on May 17-19.

Heading into Thursday, the Cubs hold a 3 game lead in the division thanks in large part to the Dodgers sweeping the Cardinals while the Cubs took care of business at home. The Brewers are still within reach but they don’t have the pitching necessary to keep pace. The only way they or the Cardinals win this division is if the Cubs beat the Cubs. Let’s look at three reasons why this road trip is the most important of the season.
