Chicago Bears: 5 biggest questions heading into training camp
By Ryan Heckman
2. Will the chemistry between Trubisky and Robinson carry over into an explosion?
Throughout the early stages of the 2018 season, Allen Robinson‘s usage and target share was all over the place. In a brand-new offense, many of the players on that side of the ball took a little time to settle in last year. Mitchell Trubisky was still figuring it out and getting accustomed to the playbook and his new teammates’ tendencies.
But, over his last four games of the regular season, Robinson saw a total of 36 targets from Trubisky. Moreover, come the Wildcard game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Robinson became Trubisky’s go-to receiver.
We saw exactly why the Bears brought him in last year as their prized free agent signing. Robinson caught 10 of 14 targets for 143 yards and a score. When it matters most, Trubisky knew who he could trust.
During camp, I’ll be watching for that chemistry to pick up where it left off last year. Every quarterback needs that one guy he can rely on no matter what. You think of guys like Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Reggie Wayne, just to name a few. These are receivers whom their quarterbacks can target knowing that, if they get the ball within radius, consider it a catch.
That’s what Robinson became last year, and I’m excited to see where that chemistry goes throughout their second training camp together.
