Time to produce

It’s time for Adam Shaheen to step up and deliver on the high expectations, as well as producing at a level commensurate with his ability. When the Bears drafted Shaheen in the second round in 2017, there were lofty expectations — and that was before the hiring of Nagy. With the change at the head coaching position, expectations soared as the tight end position played a critical role in Andy Reid‘s offense under Nagy.

Unfortunately, Shaheen has been severely limited by the injury bug, playing only 19 games in two years. At times, he has flashed the potential that the Bears fell in love with, but just as he does, he suffers another setback.

Shaheen offers a rare combination of size and athleticism at the position and would be an enormous weapon (and security blanket) for Trubisky. However, as the old adage goes, “the best ability is availability.” So if Shaheen isn’t able to suit up, the Bears will fill that role with another — possibly even one of their undrafted rookie free agents, Dax Raymond or Ian Bunting.

If he doesn’t start producing this season or is limited again by injury, the Bears will almost certainly look to go in another direction and Shaheen’s future with the team will be in question.
