Chicago Bears: Getting excited for 2019 training camp
We are finally in June, the light at the end of the tunnel is coming, and the Chicago Bears will be in training camp before you know it.
The Chicago Bears are about to have their 100th-anniversary celebration on the weekend of June 7th-9th. This is going to be the largest gathering of Bears in the history of the franchise, and it gets fans all warm and fuzzy inside to think about the past and relay that excitement into the future.
Not long after the event is over they will begin refocussing on the task ahead, which is the 2019 NFL season. With it being the 100th anniversary, there will certainly be lots of celebration throughout the season, but there is the business to be taken care of.
They were 12-4 in 2018 and had a monstrosity of an ending. That left a horrible taste in the mouth of everyone involved, including the fans. Now they have to start all over in 2019 as they are a team that believes they can win the Super Bowl for the first time since 1985. It is important that they develop good habits throughout summer camp and preseason so that they can be ready for kickoff once the regular season rolls around.
With another year of development for quarterback Mitchell Trubisky along with some new fancy weapons to help him on offense, accompanied by the defense that was the best in the NFL in 2019. Another year of the Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks duo and the impressive defensive backfield to just dominate the rest of the NFC.
Mitchell Trubisky’s development is the biggest storyline going into camp. He had an impressive first full season as a Bear in 2018 and although the defense was truly awesome, they probably wouldn’t have been 12-4 if Mitch didn’t play well enough to take advantage of that defense.
Now, in 2019 he needs to be even better because that is what could get the Bears over the hump. If he played even better to go along with that great defense, and they can actually have a good kicking game, then they will be true Super Bowl contenders once again.
This is an important year for the Bears because we are all starving for playoff success for the blue and orange. It is the hope that they take care of business when they need to and can take advantage of the teams they are supposed to beat. It would be awesome to see Mack and Trubisky play in all 16 games and that could be the key to winning the division and getting a first-round bye.
The fact that there were some quotes from some of the big guns at OTA’s showed that football is in the air and exciting times are ahead. Training camp will be here before you know it and it is time to get excited about it.
