Taylor Gabriel – WR, Bears (Tyrion Lannister)

Tyrion Lannister is a part of one of the Great Houses. Lannisters are known for “always paying their debts”. Tyrion is the youngest of Tywin Lannister, Lord of House Lannister. The Lannisters are a very proud house, but that pride clouds their judgment at times. Unfortunately for Tyrion, he is not well liked by his family. His sister and father blame him for his mother’s death.

Tyrion’s mother died giving birth to Tyrion and not to mention, Tyrion ended up being a dwarf. That is all it took for him to be the black sheep of the family. In order to overcome the prejudices that came from being so small in stature, Tyrion had to work hard on crafting the skills he did have. He developed a sharp mind to overcome his physical disadvantages.

Finding a player comp for Tyrion was difficult. The player obviously had to be short, but there was more to it than that. Tarik Cohen instantly came to mind for his size, but he was missing key characteristics elsewhere. The closest comparable I could come up with Taylor Gabriel.

Gabriel is still pretty short at only 5’8″, so the height part fits fine. All NFL players are clearly physically gifted in some way, but like Tyrion, Gabriel had to overcome his size. He had to work hard and he was not even drafted. He made the Cleveland Browns team in 2014. He bounced around to the Atlanta Falcons and is now with the Chicago Bears.

One could say Tyrion has followed a similar path in Game of Thrones. He has been a part of a few “teams” just as Gabriel has in the NFL. Gabriel has had some big moments too, just as Tyrion has had throughout his journey. However, both do not live up to the statistical fortitude of their peers.
