Chicago Bears: 3 surprises from win over Arizona Cardinals
By Sam Fels
The Bears lost Prince Amukamara during the game. We thought it could mean death, but it didn’t.
The big fear for the Bears this season was that if anyone in the secondary got hurt, they would have serious problems after hustling out whatever plumber or bouncer they have out there to replace them. That wasn’t the case Sunday.
It sure helped to be playing Sam Bradford and his merry band of goofs on offense. Against a better team it could have been a problem. This was not a better team.
Sherrick McManis had an interception. Bryce Callahan was all over the field and got a pick for himself as well. And the Bears still had Eddie Jackson to be a ball-hawk in a big spot as well.
I’m not sure Callahan is any good, but no one’s seems to have told him that so he’s just going to get by on guts and effort until someone does. Again, the Cardinals don’t have a serious weapon on the outside now that Larry Fitzgerald is 106-years-old and they’re more worried about getting David Johnson the ball. But Callahan made sure the Bears didn’t miss Prince Amukamara, at least for a half.
An extended absence would still be a problem. The more snaps that Callahan and McManis have to take risks exposure. McManis has only been a special teams ace for a reason. But for one afternoon, it was enough.
