The Chicago Bears absolutely stunned the football world on Saturday morning when they announced that they had acquired All-Pro defensive end Khalil Mack. Here’s why the move puts the Bears into serious playoff contention.

Merry Christmas, Bears fans.

The Chicago Bears made the move of the summer on Saturday, dealing for Oakland Raiders All-Pro defensive end Khalil Mack.

Mack had been holding out of Raiders after the two sides could not come to terms on an extension, making Mack a serious trade candidate.

In came Ryan Pace, making the signature move of his tenure as the Bears general manager. Mack, who was targeted by the Browns, Jets and Packers (we’ll get to that later), was officially made a Chicago Bear by Saturday afternoon.

Bringing Mack to Chicago wasn’t cheap, as the Bears are sending a 2019 first-round and sixth-round pick, as well as a 2020 first-round and third-round pick for Mack, a 2020 second-rounder and a 2020 conditional fifth-round pick.

In Mack, the Bears are getting one of, if not the best defensive player in the NFL. Drafted fifth-overall out of the University of Buffalo in 2014, Mack is a three-time Pro-Bowler, two-time First-team All-Pro and the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Mack joins Leonard Floyd, Akiem Hicks and Roquan Smith in what is easily one of the NFL’s most dominant front-sevens. We’ll dissect the many impacts of Mack throughout the remainder of the article.
