Chicago Bears: Players who could surprisingly make final roster vs. Bills
By Ryan Heckman
Running Back Taquan Mizzell
The case of the fourth running back is an intriguing situation. Do the Bears keep four backs on the team? Do they keep three running backs and fullback Michael Burton? Please, for the love of God, don’t tell me it’s going to be the latter.
If anything, I could see Nagy keeping four pure running backs within this style of offense. Please, let Burton walk.
As for those two remaining running backs fighting for a spot, it’s close. At the moment, the battle between Taquan Mizzell and Ryan Nall seems to be wide open.
At first glance, watching the preseason action, I would have assumed Mizzell to have gotten much more work. But, that is not the case. Nall has seen just as much playing time — nearly identical as you can see.
Mizzell, though, has been the first one out there in every game. Nall has always come in to spell Mizzell later in the game. If that is any indication, the chances MIzzell makes the roster over Nall are better than they should be.
I’m on Team Nall, personally. I don’t think Mizzell offers anything spectacular that another back can’t do better. But, whether or not the coaches agree is up for debate. It looks like the final preseason tilt against the Buffalo Bills will mean quite a bit to these two.
