There were a few surprises coming out of the Chicago Bears’ second preseason game.

Prior to the Chicago Bears’ second preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, I wrote about some storylines worth watching. For the most part, things were expected to unfold in a particular way. Preseason games just have a level of predictability that you don’t find in the regular season.

As a result, fans shouldn’t have expected anything earth-shattering after last night’s tilt. Even though this was the Bears’ second preseason game, the Hall of Fame game didn’t really count. In essence, it was a glorified practice. Last night was the first time starters got any playing time — and limited playing time at that.

Therefore, we expected a lot of scripted, vanilla plays on both sides of the ball from both teams. For the most part, that is what we got. Mitch Trubisky and the majority of the offensive starters were out after two series. The defense was also on a similar schedule, though not identical.

Nevertheless, there were a few surprises that came out of the game worth noting. Some good, some bad, but surprises nonetheless. We take a look at them below.
