Chicago Bears: 5 bold predictions going into training camp
Bold prediction number two: Deon Bush wins the starting job at strong safety
Adrian Amos quietly had a solid 2017 season. Pro Football Focus graded him second highest among all safeties in the NFL. While I felt Amos was solid in 2017, his lack of ability to make plays on the football is hard to ignore.
It has come to a point that after three years we pretty much about see what Amos is going to be in the NFL. You are going to get a solid starter that rarely will be out of position in coverage and occasionally give you the big hit. There’s not much upside to Amos’ game, which is why you see and hear fans ponder whether there’s an upgrade out there. That guy could already be on the roster in Deon Bush.

Bush has done little to nothing his first two years in the league. When he was put out there in spot duty, he looked lost. However, Vic Fangio came out during the offseason workouts and single out Bush for his play thus far.
Amos is a better football player than Bush from an X’s-and-O’s aspect. However, Bush has the physical tools to develop into a playmaker. He’s a quick-twitch athlete that is not afraid to come downhill and deliver a big hit. If Bush suddenly gets the mental aspect of it, I boldly predict he comes out training camp the starter next to Eddie Jackson.
