Chicago Cubs MLB Draft Big Board
#1: Jarred Kelenic
Position: Outfield
School: Waukesha West High School (Wisc.)
Jarred Kelenic is the best high school hitter in the entire draft. Hence, he likely won’t be available past the top-20 or maybe even the top-ten.
But the Cubs can dream, and it would truly be a dream come true if Kelenic falls all the way to 24.
The Louisville commit exemplifies what a five-tool player is as his ability at the plate, on the bases and in the field are what makes him the consensus top high school position player.
As mentioned before, Kelenic certainly won’t be available at 24. But the Cubs, as most teams will, should have the top high schooler in the draft at the top of their big board regardless of where he’s slated to go.
#2: Nolan Gorman
Position: Third Base
School: Sandra Day O’Connor HS (Ariz.)
Like Kelenic, Nolan Gorman probably won’t fall past the top 15.
But the top power-hitting prep prospect in the entire draft will be atop most teams big boards regardless of pick, and you can include the Cubs on that list.
Gorman possesses 60-grade power per MLB.Com, winning the Home Run Derby at the Under Armor All-American Game at Wrigley Field last summer.
The Arizona commit looks to go in the 10-15 pick range, but as is typical with high school hitters, Gorman could be susceptible to a draft day slide.
If he falls to 24, Gorman would be the ideal building block for the Cubs farm system. A player with the power potential of Gorman would be hard to pass up, and if he’s available at 24, the Cubs will certainly jump and select him.
