Why the Chicago Bulls will re-sign Zach LaVine
3. Who would replace him?
Truthfully, the Chicago Bulls probably aren’t overly concerned with this question as they intend wholeheartedly to ensure LaVine is back in Chicago for at least the next 4-5 seasons.
And yet, if you’re worried about LaVine potentially leaving, you should probably ask who his potential replacements could be,
And the answers won’t make you very happy.
As nicely as Tyreke Evans played in 2018 (19.4 points per game, 5.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists), why would you replace LaVine with Evans? LaVine’s five years younger and likely has loads of untapped upside. Evans likely is what he is at this point, though he’s a solid player.
33-year-old JJ Redick? I love his shot, but no, thanks. The Bulls want to get younger and more athletic, two things that Redick is absolutely not.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope? Too risky.
Avery Bradley or Will Barton? Just the mention of their names makes me laugh.
Also, anyone still want to see about signing/trading for Rodney Hood?
Yeah…didn’t think so.
Bottom line: I would not take a single two-guard available on the free agent market over LaVine right now. And the Bulls are not trying to trade away draft assets to get a replacement, either.

They got the guy they coveted two years ago, and they’re not letting him walk like this. With him having shown what he can do, albeit with rust and some inconsistency, and with him being 23 years old, there’s just no way he’s going anyway.
The Chicago Bulls will re-sign Zach LaVine. The only thing left to be seen is how big the check will be.
