Collin Sexton

If you want a true Mitchell analog for the Chicago Bulls in the 2018 NBA Draft, Sexton just might be it.

Like Mitchell, Sexton doesn’t necessarily have elite size for a guard, standing at about 6-foot-3 (generously). But that doesn’t hinder a whole lot about his game.

Quite simply, Sexton is a beast of an attacker with the ball in his hands.

His speed, quickness and athletic ability enable him to get to the rim more or less whenever he wants. And he seems to delight in playing through contact and straight up willing his way through defenders to the cup.

Sounds like Mitchell to me…looks like him, too.

On top of that, his jump shot isn’t too bad either, giving him another weapon to develop at the NBA level to beat defenses. And with Fred Hoiberg as his head coach, you can almost beat that his jumper would improve markedly as a rookie in Chicago.

Furthermore, his athleticism and length — he has a 7-foot wingspan and 8-foot standing reach — could make him a defensive monster on par with Dunn. Imagine having two guards with the ability to lock people up to that degree in the backcourt.

Also, with Dunn already making the transition to being a more viable point guard, Sexton wouldn’t have to take on primary playmaking duties —  he’s not ready for that just yet. That would leave him free to attack and score off the ball, which could be a big plus for him.

Plus, everything you hear about Sexton suggests that he never backs down from a challenge and thrives under pressure. That fits him in well with the likes of Dunn and Markkanen especially.

With the growing importance of dynamic guards in today’s league, Sexton could provide a big boost for the Bulls and give them some interesting versatility for smaller lineups, putting LaVine at the 3 and potentially getting him off other scoring guards defensively.

And his pit-bull mentality could help turn the tide in big games as well.
