#7: Javon Wims, Wide Receiver, Georgia

Round 7, Pick 224

Pro Comparison: Aaron Dobson

When it comes to the seventh round, teams typically try to go for guys who have the potential to burst onto the scene as impact talent. Hence the reason why so many skill position players go in the seventh round.

The Bears selected Javon Wims, a wide receiver from Georgia. Wims was the top possession wide receiver on the Bulldogs, catching 45 passes for 720 yards last season.

Wims specializes in contested throws, as he holds impressive athleticism and the ability to make highlight-reel plays over defensive backs.

A former NFL wide receiver who specialized in just that was Aaron Dobson. The former Patriots wideout specialized in short-yardage and red zone situations, finding himself in the highlight reels frequently due to his spectacular play-making ability.

Both at 6-foot-3, Wims and Dobson excel in making space to possess short-range throws. Wims, like Dobson, lacks the ability to extend plays after the catch.

Although he’s out of the league now, Dobson had a relatively successful career with the Patriots, catching four touchdowns in 24 games while winning one Super Bowl.

Any productivity from a seventh rounder is special, but if Wims can match the impact made by Dobson, then the Bears have found themselves a decent value in the seventh round.
