Harold Landry

Edge rusher, Boston College

It really wasn’t that long ago that we were talking about Landry as a possibility for the Bears at pick number eight. However, here we are with Landry sliding all the way down to the second round. The report coming out is that some teams have flagged him as a medical risk with his knee and back.

Edge rush is a big-time need for the Bears with Leonard Floyd still recovering from a serious knee injury. Aaron Lynch was brought in from the San Francisco 49ers, but he’s coming off back-to-back seasons of two or fewer sacks. Sam Acho was brought back on a two-year deal, but he’s seen as more of a special teamer and a guy that you can put in a pinch to get you out of a game.

Landry, you can argue when healthy, rivals Bradley Chubb as the top edge rush prospect in this draft. His speed and bend around the edge are arguably the best of anyone in this class. Landry was robbed of his 2017 season because of injuries, but his 2016 tape is outstanding as he finished that season with 16.5 sacks.

In order for this team to take that next step, they have to improve at rushing the passer, and not put it all on Floyd. Landry can step in right away contribute and even sneak into the starting lineup midway in the season.
