2018 NFL Draft: Who could Chicago Bears trade back for in the first round?
Mike McGlinchey, OT (Notre Dame)
Sticking with the scenarios above (trading with the Cardinals at No. 15, Chargers at No. 17, Patriots at No. 23 or something like that), the Bears could potentially go in a few interesting directions.
They could go with a receiver, as outlined above. They could nab a cornerback like Jaire Alexander or perhaps Isaiah Oliver, depending on how far back they trade.
Or they could grab the second-best Notre Dame offensive lineman in the 2018 NFL Draft, still giving Harry Hiestand one of his guys to keep molding.
The case for McGlinchey is that he’s one the top offensive tackles in this draft and could immediately improve that position for the Bears. If they drafted him, I don’t see how Bobby Massie makes it to the regular season with the team.

He’s massive at 6-foot-8, 312 pounds, has very good upside as a pass blocker due to his solid movement skills, has good technique and has all the leadership qualities you could want.
Plus, he’s worked with Hiestand for the last five years, and the Bears’ new offensive line coach will know exactly how to deploy him properly.
He could use some more raw strength and a touch of Quenton Nelson‘s disdain for human life, but McGlinchey would be a good NFL starter at tackle. And the Hiestand connection could help squeeze even more out of him.

The more I think about the Chicago Bears trading back in the 2018 NFL Draft, the more it seems like it would be a great idea.
Of course, maybe a man they want falls in their lap at No. 8 overall. If, say, Nelson makes it there, I doubt they’d move then.
But if Rosen falls, Nelson and Chubb get snatched up and teams start calling, the Bears can still hope to grab NFL-ready talent in the mid-to-late first round.
