14. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton, SMU

If a guy like Courtland Sutton happens to be there in the second round, he’d be an intriguing pick for the Bears. After Cameron Meredith was let go, the Bears immediately found themselves in a hole at their no. 2 WR position.

Taylor Gabriel is going to be an integral and fascinating part of the offense, but he’s not the type of guy who can handle WR2 responsibilities. Nobody knows what to expect from Kevin White, and Joshua Bellamy certainly will not be given that position.

Thus, Sutton would fit the bill. He’s a huge body that moves well in traffic and seems to always give defensive backs — and sometimes linebackers — a difficult time in bringing him down. Sutton can line up outside or in the slot, making him an ideal WR2 candidate.

Coming from a smaller school, some wonder whether the level of competition is going to hurt Sutton as he transitions to the NFL. His inability to separate in coverage is in question, but the way he makes up for it in positioning his body is stellar.

Sutton’s major strength is playing somewhat like a big man in basketball. He can box out with the best of them. There are hardly any corners who have been able to adjust well enough to disallow Sutton’s frame to put the former Mustang in position to make the grab.

If a couple of other guys are gone by this point in round two, Sutton makes a lot of sense. However, if the next player on this list is available, I believe Pace might pull the trigger on him over Sutton.
