The Chicago Bears could benefit big time from a trade with the Buffalo Bills, who look like an ideal partner, now more than ever.

On Tuesday, Buffalo Bills veteran offensive guard Richie Incognito announced he would be retiring from the NFL. How does this potentially help the Chicago Bears?

Answer: In a huge way.

The Bills are already one of the rumored teams to want to move up in this year’s NFL Draft to get themselves a quarterback. The Bears, at no. 8, would be a solid candidate if one of their favorite passers were to fall to that spot.

Now, with a gigantic hole left by Incognito, the Bills are in need of a starting guard; not just any starting guard, because the player leaving the game of football was indeed a good one.

So, do the Bills now focus on their quarterback in the first round? Or, could they try and move up to get a “once-in-a-generation” type of player in guard Quenton Nelson out of Notre Dame? The options for the Bills are endless at this point, and the Bears would suit them as a perfect trade partner.

For the Bears, they could use this to their advantage come draft day. The Bills currently sit at no. 12 overall as well as holding the 22nd overall pick in the first round. If they think Nelson is worth the trade, Chicago could wind up with either both of those picks or at least the no. 12 pick paired with one of the Bills’ second round selections.

The Bills could trade up for Nelson at no. 8 while still being able to snag someone like Lamar Jackson at no. 22 overall. Is Jackson the guy for them? Maybe, maybe not. But, that’s the question a lot of teams are having to answer lately. Jackson’s stock has certainly risen since the combine and is considered a boom-or-bust prospect.

The Bears would come out on top in one of these situations, without a doubt. Still getting one of their top guys at no. 12 and stacking another second round selection would be huge, especially considering their needs at linebacker and the guys projected to be available in round two.
