Chicago Bears: 5 pre-daft position battle previews
By Ryan Heckman
Wide Receiver
Locked in: Allen Robinson
Currently competing: Cameron Meredith, Kevin White, Taylor Gabriel
How in the world has wide receiver become such a fun position to analyze in Chicago? It seems like it has been a while since the Bears had competition here — only a year or two, but man those have been long seasons.
Obviously, locked in at the first starting wide receiver spot is Allen Robinson. That is a given. Opposite Robinson, though, might be up for grabs. At the moment, I would bet Cameron Meredith gets the nod if he ends up in Chicago. However, he has been taking free agency visits at the moment and the Bears must match an opposing offer in order to keep him.
Other than Meredith, the Bears have Taylor Gabriel and Kevin White competing for the job. Gabriel will likely be more of a slot guy, although he has spent time on the outside as well in the past and is very versatile. White, on the other hand, is attempting to put injuries behind him and finally get through a full season as a pro.
Will the Bears bring in any more talent at the position in the draft? That’s a great question. If you were to ask me that two weeks ago, I would have given you a ‘yes,’ whole-heartedly. Now, I’m not so sure. If the guys on the roster stay healthy, they should have a decent group.

I wouldn’t put it past Pace to bring in a rookie or two, though. Whether it be in the draft or as an undrafted rookie, the Bears could use all the competition they can get at a position that has been a glaring weakness as of late.
