Chicago Bears Free Agency: 7 potential second wave value signings
By Ryan Heckman
CB Bashaud Breeland
The biggest name on this list in the majority of eyes is most likely Bashaud Breeland. The former Clemson Tiger had quite a market early on in free agency before failing a physical with the Carolina Panthers.
Breeland had agreed to a 3-year $24 million deal with the Panthers, but ultimately the contract was never solidified due to health reasons. The big question now — and to some, a joke — is whether or not he can pass a physical.
If so, Breeland would give the Bears another threat in the secondary and solidify a phenomenal core group of players for Fangio. Having been an extremely consistent and durable player over his first four years, Breeland was set to be a highly-sought after free agent.
Breeland has played in all but four games over the past four years. He has averaged double-digit passes defended, last year notching 19 total — a career high. He intercepted one pass in 2017 and made it count for a 96-yard touchdown.
Failing a physical could cause Breeland’s value to drop significantly. If so, Pace should hop right on the phone and see about bringing him in for a visit. If he is indeed in football shape, Fangio could use an aggressive playmaker like Breeland.
