Chicago Bears: The Effects of the Tyrod Taylor Deal
We’re less than a week before the NFL Free Agency period begins, and boy oh boy is it chaotic. Never before have we seen so many intriguing and fascinating trades. The Eagles are reloading, the Rams are retooling, and the Browns are…making noise.
Hours ago, the Browns made a stunning trade with the Miami Dolphins to acquire Pro Bowl wideout, Jarvis Landry:
The payout for the Dolphins appears to be a pick in this draft and the 2019 draft. Not bad for Miami, given they put themselves in a bind by tagging Landry. However, the Browns weren’t done quite yet:
While this doesn’t involve the Chicago Bears directly, it certainly brings up the possibility of a trade-down scenario. The Bills have the 21st, 22nd, 53rd, 56th, 96th, 121st, 158th, and 166th picks next April. To say the least, they have the ammunition for a trade up to fill the newly vacated space at quarterback.
There was a rumor going around prior to the combine that the Bills were interested in moving into the top 10 to presumably take a quarterback. Now that they traded Tyrod Taylor to Cleveland, odds seem good that they will look to do so.

It’s Chicago’s turn to make a trade of their own.
Picking at 8th overall, there is a chance that the Bears may not be able to get a player at the top of their respective position. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Quenton Nelson will likely be gone and who knows how much they like Denzel Ward or Tremaine Edmunds.
If they look to deal with Buffalo, you can bet they will get some good draft capital. Something like this could be in the realm of possibility:
This should merely serve as a foundation for a trade; I would like to believe Chicago can get more
Ryan Pace grabbing another first rounder and a second rounder should aid in attacking key areas for a team in dire need of talent. With those two first rounders, the Bears can attack receiver and edge-rusher. They could take an offensive lineman and nab a cornerback. This deal creates options and flexibility; something that every team needs when the draft calls.

While it’s not a foregone conclusion the Bills jump into the top 10, it seems very likely. Whether or not they deal with the Bears or someone else is a different story altogether. After today’s wild day of trades, Ryan Pace should already be on the line with Bills GM Brandon Beane.
