Chicago Bears: Dion Sims out, Trey Burton coming to Chicago?
Could Trey Burton be on his way to the Chicago Bears? Some cryptic social media activity has Bears fans buzzing.
There have been rumors that Trey Burton, the Philadelphia Eagles tight end, is a potential free agent target of the Chicago Bears. Some recent social media activity has fans wondering whether that marriage is closer to becoming a reality.
Earlier this week, Dion Sims shared a message on Instagram. Although it appears he has since deleted the post, the original message was somewhat cryptic.
Now in fairness, this post could mean a number of things.
He could simply be looking forward to what is in store for him as a member of the Chicago Bears in 2018. However, it is no secret that he was largely a disappointment in 2017.
After signing a 3-year/$18 million contract, with $10 million in guaranteed money last season, Sims was targeted 29 times but only hauled in 15 catches for a total of 180 yards.

Granted, Sims was thrust into a larger role as a result of Zach Miller’s injury, but he simply did not do enough while on the field.
It is important to point out that Sims is still under contract as of this moment. Of course, that is also a very fluid situation and could change at any moment.
Taken alone, Sims’ post is fairly vague. However, when you read Sims’ post together with Mitch Trubisky’s recent Twitter activity, you cannot help but wonder whether there is smoke to this fire.

On Monday, in a move that went unnoticed by many, Trubisky casually started to follow Burton on Twitter. Again, this could mean absolutely nothing. However, with no apparent connection between Burton and Trubisky, it is quite possible this is Mitch’s way of recruiting the tight end to Chicago.
Next: Trey Burton a likely free agent target for the Bears
Trey Burton is a versatile tight end who would be a perfect compliment to Adam Shaheen. It would also be exciting to see what Coach Matt Nagy could do with them both on the field in two tight end sets. While this is far from a reality at this point, social media has given Bears fans reason to dream.
