Chicago Bears: Trading for Martavis Bryant makes too much sense

The latest report suggests the Steelers are listening to offers for their controversial wideout.

It is well documented that the CHicago Bears are in need of serious help at the wide receiver position. A year ago, the thought was that Ryan Pace would aggressively address the issue via free agency and potentially in the draft as well.

Come to find out, that never ended up happening. Pace took fliers on guys like Markus Wheaton, Victor Cruz and Kendall Wright. We all know what happened with Cruz and, unfortunately, Wheaton never panned out.

Wright was the only guy who remotely produced, becoming a favorite target down the stretch for quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Meanwhile, both Kevin White and Cameron Meredith suffered significant injuries ending their seasons.

This year, the feeling you get out of Halas Hall is that Pace is going to take the receiver position a heck of a lot more seriously.

For starters, he could begin by getting on the phone with the Pittsburgh Steelers regarding Martavis Bryant. Ian Rapoport suggested that the team will entertain offers for their disgruntled wideout.

More from Chicago Bears

Last year, after the Steelers drafted Juju Smith-Schuster and he began to see extensive action on the field, Bryant clearly became frustrated. He had an incident on social media where he was seen saying something along the lines of himself being a better player than the rookie.

Rumors swirled from then on about Bryant wanting out of Pittsburgh.

If Bryant wants to go somewhere that would allow him to be the true number one guy, Chicago makes the most sense. With Trubisky needing that type of piece in place, Bryant could pay serious dividends.

Since seeing a Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall leave town, the Bears have been starving for a replacement. The need may have even started to become apparent as Jeffery struggled to stay healthy in his last year or two with the Bears.

Bryant has always been seen as potentially having everything you need to be a stud wideout. He’s got the big body. He’s very athletic, being able to go up and make tough catches. Most impressively, his speed is typically unmatched by any defensive back.

If Chicago is serious about making this position a strength rather than the glaring weakness it was last year, Bryant should become an immediate target. If I’m Pace, I would not hesitate offering something like a second round pick or another combination of picks as fast as I can.
