Three players who the Chicago Bears should have cut
1. Jeremy Langford, RB
The Chicago Bears kept four running backs on their 53-man roster. Jordan Howard is the clear starter and the centerpiece of the entire offense. Rookie Tarik Cohen has shown a ton of upside in the preseason and is set up to be a fantastic change of pace back. Benny Cunningham has shown some offensive ability and is a true special teams asset. Between those three players, the Bears seem to have everything covered, but Jeremy Langford is also still in the mix.
In Week 1 of the 2016 season, Langford was the Bears’ starting running back. Langford is not a bad player. He is a strong receiver out of the backfield and can run between the tackles a bit. However, he is simply not a special player. We have seen enough out of Langford to know that.
Having depth at running back is important for a run-based offensive, but I just don’t think that Langford provides that quality depth. He is just another guy. If something were to, unfortunately, happen to Howard, the Bears could simply pick up a back off of the scrap heap who would have similar value as Langford.

I guess when it comes down to it, I just don’t think Langford is a very good football player. Between Howard, Cohen and Cunningham, the Bears seem to have everything they need at the running back position on a weekly basis. Langford simply appears to be sticking around for an emergency situation, but he is not good enough to warrant that roster spot.
The Bears could have used that roster spot to hold on to a young player with some upside. Tanner Gentry and Isaiah Irving immediately stand out as better options on this 53-man roster than Langford. Keeping him around as the unnecessary fourth running back was a mistake.
