Offensive Line: F

Going into this season, the Chicago Bears starting offensive line should be one of the team’s strengths. But heaven forbid one of them gets hurt because their backups are atrocious.

The Bears could not accomplish anything tonight offensively, and it all started up front. They didn’t open up any holes for any running backs. They didn’t protect their quarterbacks particularly well, forcing Trubisky and Shaw to scramble often. And every time the Bears did make a good offensive play, some offensive penalty from the line wiped it out.

They even gave up a safety, for goodness’ sake.

Fifth-round pick Jordan Morgan looked like a mammoth stuck in a tar pit on that one.

I can ultimately understand why Fox might’ve wanted to hand off with Trubisky instead of dropping him back to pass early in the game. With such shoddy protection, why risk it? But if that were the case, why did you pass with him with less than two minutes left in the game? If you knew the line was this bad, why’d you even bother playing him? After all, the reserve line has been terrible all preseason. This shouldn’t have surprised anyone.

Hopefully, none of these guys will be protecting the Chicago Bears quarterbacks this season.
