Chicago Bears fall to Browns in preseason finale: Defensive grades
Defensive Line: A-
If nothing else, despite the other roster holes, we know the Chicago Bears have some very solid reserves on the front seven. While a few of them, like Jonathan Bullard, didn’t play much tonight, we did an extended look at a couple important reserves last night. And they picked up right where the starters left off.

John Jenkins and Jaye Howard looked active and dominated the line of scrimmage early. Howard especially needed to perform well after having last Sunday cut short with an ejection for throwing punches against the Tennessee Titans. And he certainly put some solid stuff on tape for Vic Fangio and John Fox. While it likely should be enough for him to make the team, the Chicago Bears have an unnatural obsession with Mitch Unrein. Hopefully, that doesn’t cost anyone decent a roster spot.
That said, one guy with absolutely nothing to worry about is Roy Robertson-Harris.
Named a special teams captain last night, he still got some run with the defense. And he continued playing like a man who’s going to break into the defensive end rotation this season. His athleticism for his size gives him crazy upside, and the Bears have seen plenty of flashes of that this preseason. Ink him in for a spot now.
