The Chicago Bears are rising

For me, the biggest takeaway of the game is how much better of a team the Chicago Bears are compared to past teams. I have always thought that the third preseason games, which is the “dress rehearsal” game, are an indicator of how a season will likely go.

The Chicago Bears just look flat-out better than they have in past seasons. The special teams unit made a nice play with a blocked punt, the offense showed flashes and didn’t turn the ball over until late in the game. The defense looked great, too. Above all else, they won the game 19-7. The Tennessee Titans struggled on offense the entire game. They were clearly strained to try to do much of anything against the Chicago Bears defense.

The Chicago Bears were up 12-0 at the half, which is a noticeable change from prior years.

After the game, future Hall of Fame and FOX analyst Tony Gonzalez talked about the Chicago Bears being a team that can make the playoffs, with good quarterback play. He advocated for the Bears to start Trubisky, which is a sentiment that most of us can agree with. Assuming he gets on the field, it will be interesting to see how Trubisky performs in the final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

I still find a postseason appearance to be unlikely, and injuries to guys like Meredith and Amukamara does not help. That being said, the Chicago Bears clearly have a lot of interesting talent on both sides of the ball. The future is starting to look bright at Halas Hall and I believe that we will start to see signs of sustained success during the 2017 season. Stay patient Bears’ fans, Ryan Pace and company have assembled an interesting long-term roster.
