Cornerbacks

Starters: Prince Amukamara, Marcus Cooper and Bryce Callahan

Backups: Cre’von LeBlanc, Kyle Fuller and Sherrick McManis

The Chicago Bears made some interesting changes at the cornerback position this offseason. Both Prince Amukamara and Marcus Cooper were added via free agency and both players are playing well early in the Bears’ careers.

A starting outside duo of Amukamara and Cooper is not elite, but it is much better than what we have seen out of the Bears in recent years. Simply getting back to respectability at cornerback will be a major step in the right direction this season.

Both Bryce Callahan and Cre’von LeBlanc played extremely well as slot defenders last season. Personally, I like LeBlanc’s ability to make plays from the slot and think he should be the primary slot cornerback on this team. However, the Bears coaching staff clearly seems to prefer the more dependable play of Callahan. I fully expect Callahan to be the Bears’ primary slot cornerback, but LeBlanc should see plenty of playing time.

Kyle Fuller has not looked bad through two preseason games, but he is still kind of broken. The former first-round pick simply does not have a lot of confidence right now. I have a hard time believing that the Bears will cut Fuller, but barring injury, he will not likely have a large role on this team.

Sherrick McManis is not a good NFL cornerback. However, he is a fantastic special teams player who has a great chance of making his roster. After not keeping Bellamy, the offensive special teams ace, I made sure to make enough room for McManis.
