Chicago White Sox: Updated ranking of the top 15 prospects
5. Lucas Giolito, RHP
Just like Carson Fulmer, Lucas Giolito has major league experience and is struggling in Triple-A. Although he has a no-hitter under his belt this season, it hasn’t really gone the way everyone was expecting.
With a record of 3-9 and a 5.38 ERA, Giolito has obviously struggled this season. On the bright side, he has 106 strikeouts in 97 innings pitched.
Giolito was also part of the Adam Eaton deal with the Nationals. I think it’s safe to say the White Sox won that deal by the way. Giolito is a big guy at 6-foot-6, 255lbs. Like all the other pitching prospects it is unclear if he will stay in the starting rotation or join the bullpen. My guess would be that he stays in the rotation. I would love to see a rotation with Giolito and Lopez.
The fan in me was fully expecting to see Giolito at some point this season, will that happen? I am not sure. I still would not be shocked if the Sox decide to bring him up sometime soon to get some more experience under his belt and to see how he handles the major league level.
Giolito was once arguably the top pitching prospect in the entire game. He is not quite at that level anymore, but he is still a talented pitcher who has a lot of long-term upside.
