Jay Cutler is reportedly set to start his broadcast career, as he has been hired to call games for FOX.

It has certainly been an interesting offseason for Jay Cutler. The long-time Chicago Bears’ quarterback was cut early in the offseason and has had a hard time finding a landing spot. The New York Jets always seemed like a logical destination but there was never any real traction there.

Also, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported during the draft that Cutler had tried to get in contact with the Houston Texans, but could not get them to return his phone calls. Cutler was once a promising NFL quarterback but those days appear to be long gone. In fact, he may have actually hung up his cleats for good.

According to Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, Cutler has been hired by FOX to broadcast games. He will share a booth with Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis.

Jay Cutler in a broadcast booth ought to be very interesting. He was never great with the media as a player, appearing standoffish a majority of the time. That being said, Cutler is an extremely bright individual who knows the game of football well. His potential in the broadcast booth is massive.

Many will hate on Cutler as a broadcaster before even giving him an opportunity. On the surface, this feels like a strange fit, but I think Cutler could be extremely successful in his new career path. Say what you want about the guy, but getting insight from a quarterback who has played a ton in recent years is going to be extremely interesting.

FOX hiring Cutler comes almost exactly a month after former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was hired as the lead analyst for CBS Sports. Cutler will not have as huge of a role at FOX as Romo will at CBS but it will be interesting to see which former quarterback will take to the career better. The smart money is probably on Romo, but do not count Cutler out.

Next: Bears should not start Trubisky in 2017

FOX holds the rights to NFC games so there is a decent chance that we will see Cutler call a Bears’ game or two in 2017. Now that would be must-see TV.
